Research & Development
Ayurveda is a life science that emphasizes holistic health and individualized therapy. It is one of the oldest medical systems, with hundreds of theories and ideas about how medicine works. Latest studies on Ayurveda show that it can treat many long-term illnesses that modern medicine can't, like arthritis, diabetes, cancer, and asthma. Unfortunately, due to a lack of empirical evidence in numerous concepts, our forefathers' unique gift is fading.
According to the WHO, around 70–80% of the world's population relies on nonconventional medications, mostly those derived from herbal sources, for their healthcare. The primary reasons for the growing public interest in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) are increased side effects of synthetic drugs, a lack of curative therapy for various chronic diseases, the high cost of new treatments, microbial resistance, developing diseases, and so on. In addition, due to a lack of proof, the thorough understanding of Ayurveda's fundamental tenets is not scientifically accepted. In this day and age, the way western medical system has achieved its pinnacle with verified research and improved procedures, there is an urgent need to validate the fundamental concepts and medications employed in the Ayurvedic system of medicine using advanced research methodologies. For the development of Ayurveda, advances in the current research approach are essential.
The formulation of guidelines for methodology in Ayurveda necessitates a substantial amount of professional effort on the part of both academicians and practitioners who possess the requisite skills and drive for this endeavor. If such an approach is not adopted, Ayurveda will eventually lose its uniqueness and become a medical history. Deep study for research is time-consuming but it is essential to overcome the obstacles in the international promotion of Ayurveda. Ayurveda can be developed by a well-organized coordinated effort which is free of prejudice. It is a disturbing fact that contemporary research has not been very fruitful for Ayurveda itself, as the majority of these studies have been utilized to expand modern bioscience. Current Ayurvedic research is failing because it can't share the knowledge it has gained through its practices. So, there is an immediate need to come up with better research methods to prove the basics of Ayurveda and validate its treatments.
Since Ayurveda is an Indian traditional medicinal system which has not been updated to current treatment needs, it is required to demonstrate its efficacy to authorities, the scientific community, or the people. There is a pressing need for basic studies on Ayurveda to refresh and update the immense knowledge that has been eroded over time, especially during the British reign.
In collaboration with a renowned publication house, Advik Ayurveda focuses on many categories of research in Ayurveda through their journals, which include literary, basic, drug, pharmaceutical, and clinical research. We focus mainly on improving the Ayurvedic research techniques with an emphasis on foundational research, as evidence-based research is critical for global acknowledgement and acceptance of Ayurveda, which requires additional breakthroughs in research methods. Our initiative is envisaged as a motivation for young researchers to work on a wide range of research projects to improve and spread Ayurveda. Encouraging basic research will undoubtedly enhance the fundamental understanding of Ayurveda, which will help not only Indians but also foreigners. It will be a giant leap for Ayurveda to receive widespread acceptance and be practiced to its fullest potential.
